Seaholme Primary
School Camp Program.
In even years the
grade 3 / 4 children go to
Camp Manyung and the grade 5 / 6 children
go to
Sovereign Hill.
In odd years the
grade 3 / 4 children go so
Sunnystones
and the
5 / 6 children go to
Derby Hill.
All of the camps
last for 3 days.
Camp Manyung is
located about 200 metres from the beach in Mount Eliza and is
surrounded by bushland. The children rotate through a number of
activities including archery, a flying fox, a giant swing (18 metres
high), bike education and a variety of beach activities. They also
do a low ropes course and orienteering activities.
Sovereign Hill is
located in Ballarat with the children staying in accommodation
adjacent to the site. They participate in a variety of activities to
learn about life on the goldfields including panning for gold,
attending class in an old fashioned school, seeing how gold ingots
are made, exploring a variety of mining techniques and exploring the
old fashioned shops located in Sovereign Hill. The “Blood on the
Southern Cross” light and sound show at night is a highlight of this
camp.
Sunnystones is
surrounded by Australian bushland and hills. The children learn all
about the bush through a variety of activities. They also do
initiative activities and a low ropes course.
The two outstanding
activities at Sunnystones are the "Instincts for Survival” game and
the hut building.
Derby Hill is a
Police Blue Light Disco camp located in the historic gold mining
town of Maldon. The children travel everywhere by walking or by
bikes (mountain bikes). All grade 5 / 6 children complete a bike
education course before coming to Derby Hill. They explore old
mining sites and view abandoned equipment such as the giant dredge,
they do an underground tour of an old mine, they visit a variety of
old fashioned shops in the main street, have a night at the local
fire station and ride around the local BMX track.
