Term 3   Level 4

What forces affect your bike when you are riding?

During the term this focus question will allow the children to discover the science behind bikes and the forces that are involved whenever we ride a bike. This will link in with our Bike Ed program which will be a lead up to the 5/6 camp at Derby Hill. The Police run Derby Hill camp allows the children to investigate historic Victoria  using pedal power with the bikes that are supplied by the camp.

The children are also going to start doing Science experiments using Science notebooks / journals. The children will be expected to follow a set format to record all details of their experiments, just like real scientists keep records of all of their experiments.

The Toastmasters Program will also run during the term on Fridays. This program encourages public speaking and has proven to be invaluable for confidence building.

In August the grade 5/6 children will have an opportunity to attend the Seaholme Maths Night. This will be an all school activity with particular activities geared towards each year level.

Other activities during the term include: Seaholme Athletics Day

W.A.D.S.S.A. Athletics Day (for children who qualify)

                                                             Hoop Time

                                                             Jungle Bungle book week play

We will also be taking a closer look at cyber security and cyber bullying. There will be also be information passed onto parents during the term in the newsletter; and possibly a booklet about cyber safety. If you go to the Seaholme website you will find a Cyber Safety section on the first page, which includes links for both parents and children.

Does your child have a Facebook or MySpace account? If they do, is it set up as public or private? All children should have their accounts set up as private. If it is public anyone can go onto it and post whatever they feel like. There is no protection for your child. Ask your child tonight! Children cannot access these websites at school, so the protection needs to be organised at home!
