Visual Arts Term 3
Level One
This term prep students are exploring
threads and textiles. They will classify and describe threads and
textiles according to hard/soft, heavy/light, furry, woolly,
scratchy etc.
Students will make a split pin
puppet. They will create and glue clothes on to their puppet. When
finished, the puppet will dance as the strings are pulled.
Levels Two and Three
Students will use hessian to create a
placemat or wall hanging. They will begin by pulling threads to
create interesting designs. They will paint PVA glue around the edge
of their work to prevent fraying. They will add the finishing
touches to their work by sewing designs and threading ribbon.
When this work is complete students
will experiment with the many ways to uses thread such as making pom
poms and finger knitting.
Level Four
Students will learn basic embroidery
stitches: cross stitch, running stitch, back stitch and blanket
stitch. Once they have mastered these stitches they will embroider a
design onto a rectangle of hessian and then sew the sides up with
blanket stitch to create a bag.
