TERM 3 ART

Visual Arts Term 3

Level One

This term prep students are exploring threads and textiles.  They will classify and describe threads and textiles according to hard/soft, heavy/light, furry, woolly, scratchy etc.

Students will make a split pin puppet.  They will create and glue clothes on to their puppet.  When finished, the puppet will dance as the strings are pulled.

Levels Two and Three

Students will use hessian to create a placemat or wall hanging.  They will begin by pulling threads to create interesting designs. They will paint PVA glue around the edge of their work to prevent fraying. They will add the finishing touches to their work by sewing designs and threading ribbon.

When this work is complete students will experiment with the many ways to uses thread such as making pom poms and finger knitting.

Level Four

Students will learn basic embroidery stitches: cross stitch, running stitch, back stitch and blanket stitch. Once they have mastered these stitches they will embroider a design onto a rectangle of hessian and then sew the sides up with blanket stitch to create a bag.
