Level 3 Term 1

DO WE NEED RULES?

 

This term our focus topic is RULES  
Students will research and complete tasks related to:

·        Decision making

·        Conflict

·        Rules

·        Consequences

·        Enforcement of rules & laws

 

Our maths program includes:

  • Extension of addition and subtraction problems 
  • Mental / speed maths
  • Creating and completing number sentences eg. 14 -7 = 4 +      
  • Money activities
  • Estimation
  • Patterns & relationships
  • 2D and 3D shapes
  • Time using analogue and digital clocks
  • Temperature                            

 

English

·        All students in the grade 3/4 unit will participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

·        One of the main focuses for reading this year is to develop comprehension skills.

·        Writing activities will focus on developing knowledge of the process of writing – brainstorm, plan, draft, share, edit, proof read.

·         Students will be given weekly spelling words to learn.

·        Grammar will be taught with an emphasis on nouns and adjectives for this term.

·        Punctuation skills will include capitals, commas, question and exclamation marks.

·        Handwriting will focus on posture, grip and starting points of letters.

·        Speaking and listening skills will be approached through our topic of rules and manners. Students need to show respect towards others, to speak clearly and loudly enough for all to hear in a group discussion. Both formal and informal oral work is included.

 

Computers

·        All students will participate in Superclubs.

·        The program offers students the opportunity to learn about email, chat rooms, web pages etc in a safe environment.

·        The site is monitored daily and the school is immediately notified of any inappropriate comments by students. Many of our weekly lessons will be based around learning this program.

·        Students will be taught how to set up folders and to title and save all work.

·        Computer use is a regular part of our classroom program. Many maths and literacy activities will be carried out on the computer. Please refer to the school website for great learning activities for home computer use.
